Debt relief possible with plenty of hard work

For many in South Carolina, excessive levels of debt threaten financial stability. Even worse, the ever-present threat of impending financial doom permeates every aspect of one's life. Debt-related stress can affect one's marriage, job performance and even have a negative impact on an individual's parenting skills. When financial obligations reach crisis levels, debt relief is the only way to move forward.

Some individuals and families are able to pull themselves out of debt the old-fashioned way; through years of hard work and making drastic changes to their existing lifestyles. One family who found themselves facing $127,000 in consumer debt made changes to virtually every aspect of their lives. They stopped going out to eat, cut their utility and entertainment expenses and evaluated each purchase they made in order to determine if there was a more cost-effective option available. They even began making their own laundry detergent in order to put the money saved toward paying down their debt.

Another man moved into a house with a group of others who were trying to pay down their debt levels. Over the course of 30 months he was able to channel every available dollar into debt repayment, and emerged debt free. By making serious compromises to his living environment and quality-of-life, he was able to reach his goal in less than three years.

For some in South Carolina, debt relief may be possible through these types of extreme means. However, for many individuals and families, existing levels of debt are so high that even extreme frugality will not provide relief. In such scenarios, a faster path to debt relief may lie in filing for personal bankruptcy. Doing so can lead to the elimination of many forms of consumer debt through discharge. Once those obligations are removed, it is possible to begin rebuilding toward a more financially secure future.
