"Store credit" can lead to further credit card debt

It is tempting around the holidays to consider credit a viable option to pay for large-ticket gifts, especially when a retailer offers store credit or even branded credit cards with low-to-no interest rates for a set time. However, South Carolina residents should be warned that not all is as it seems with some of these deals. Credit card debt is a serious issue and is best approached with a degree of caution.

Popular sandwich shop files for Chapter 7

Bad news for sandwich lovers -- a popular sandwich shop has unexpectedly closed its doors, citing unmanageable debt. South Carolina residents who frequent the West Coast might already know the name Paseo, which operated two locations in a prominent U.S. city. The company shut down both locations on Nov. 13 and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy the following day.

Using retirement savings to pay credit card debt a bad idea

When an individual switches jobs, an option becomes available to either cash out his or her accrued retirement savings or else roll it over into an IRA or equivalent package.  In South Carolina, as elsewhere around the nation, however, more and more people are choosing to cash out these potentially lucrative packages in the interest of paying down debt, especially credit card debt. However, some experts are cautioning against such a move, since the cost can outweigh the benefits.

Finding a balance to deal with credit card debt

Paying down debt can be extremely challenging, even for those of us with solid money acumen. South Carolina residents dealing with "bad debt" like credit card debt can find themselves fighting an uphill battle when it comes to seeing that debt paid down. Thankfully, there are a variety of tactics that can be used to tackle that debt, up to and including seeing some of it forgiven through a Chapter 7 personal bankruptcy filing.
